The recently formed Dutch government is putting money and concrete timelines behind a promise to commission four large new nuclear reactors starting in 2035, and to more broadly support nuclear energy. The government’s program and budget, both released last week, set aside funding for new nuclear and provided deadlines for a formal tender, a decision on government financing and a small modular reactor (SMR) plan. On the back of all these new nuclear plans, the government is also looking to bring forward its timeline for finding a solution to the management of radioactive waste.
