With just days left to Australia's Sep. 7 national election, the latest polls show the conservative opposition coalition led by Liberal Party chief Tony Abbott widening its lead to a 54-46 margin over the ruling Labor Party of incumbent Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Labor's popularity has been badly hurt by bitter internal strife during its five-year reign, and has not been helped by a weakening economy as a decade-long mining boom fizzles out. Abbott has also pulled ahead in personal approval ratings after trailing Rudd for months.
