Airport executives emphasized that urgency in a webinar on the Transition from Airports to ENERports hosted by International Airport Review. “If you are not carbon neutral by 2030, you are out of business,” warned Riivo Tuvike, the CEO of Tallinn Airport, in Estonia. This year its array of solar farms across five Estonian airports will generate 40% of its electricity needs. That will be complemented by plans to buy only green electricity from the grid by 2027. The airport also intends to produce green hydrogen for the hydrogen economy from surplus solar energy. “This is an opportunity — not a burden. We are making money from solar farms,” Tuvike said.
