Last week's deals between Big Tech firms and nuclear developers that made headlines across the world were nowhere more innovative than Amazon's agreement to midwife the deployment of at least four Xe-100 high-temperature gas-cooled reactors with Northwest Energy in the US state of Washington. Amazon will pair funding for initial development work with a to-be-finalized power purchase agreement (PPA) to help attract a government loan, bring the X-energy-supplied reactors into construction and make them commercially deployable for more general grid decarbonization.
