Newbuild: Is USNC Bankruptcy a Sign of Needed Market Downselection?

This week's bankruptcy filing by microreactor developer Ultra Safe Nuclear Corp. (USNC) is striking for its timing: It follows by weeks the parallel initiatives from two of the world's largest technology companies to back advanced reactor deployments, thereby energizing the nuclear sector to a level not seen in decades. Even as advanced reactor developers X-energy and Kairos Power were securing respective commitments from Amazon and Google, however, USNC was scrambling for a new source of funding and then preparing the paperwork for Chapter 11, the bankruptcy process it launched Oct. 29.
