BP has suspended gas flows from one of the two platforms it operates at the giant Shah Deniz field offshore Azerbaijan for technical reasons and says it is working to fix the problem as soon as possible. The temporary cutoff in deliveries from the Alpha platform, which can handle around 10 Bcm/yr of gas, appears to have disrupted at least some Azeri piped gas flows to Europe, which run at around 12 Bcm/yr. Both Serbia and Bulgaria reported gas stoppages and gave no indication of when supplies might resume. It was not clear whether other European importers were impacted amid other recent gas pipeline turmoil. BP said the problem at the Alpha platform is related to a gas condensate pipeline that links the platform to the Sangachal terminal south of Baku. The other platform at Shah Deniz, Bravo, with capacity of around 16 Bcm/yr, continues to work as normal, BP says.
